As most of you know I am a crunchy-granola-home-birthing kind of mama. There was an article in the LA Times about Midwives and it's AWESOME!
What are you waiting for, go read it!

Life is crazy with 3 kids but it's manageable with quilt making.

That was an awsome article and I didn't know most of that stuff!! I know if we have another baby we are going to have a midwife/dula becuse I want to have the baby at home or in the birthing center neer our house.
Midwives and doulas are different yet important int their own roles. A doula is a labor support person who helps you be comfortable, relaxed, etc. during labor and a midwife is the one who catches the baby, so to speak. A midwife is trained and knowledgeable with all the aspects of pregnancy and birthing.
I absolutely loved having Seth at home. Birth centers seem to be a stepping stone for a lot of women who don't want to be at the hospital but aren't quite comfortable with birthing in their own home. Although, the amount of support you'd get at a birth center isn't much different than what you'd get at home. Still no epidural.
I could talk all day about the benefits of home birth... so if you ever have questions or want info I can point you in the right direction.
