Weak

I am weak and my husband is an enabler. I went to the quilt store to get some thread. I got the thread and fabric to make a large lap size quilt. I just saw it and really wanted it. I called Dan to see if he'd be ok with me getting it, after all fabric is like $9 a yard, and he was fine with it. Someday he'll tell me no when I ask for something. (Psst, I want diamonds! JK)
Super easy to piece and cute, cute, cute. I am so weak around fabric. Weak I tell you.

Spacers and palate expanders

We have begun Hannah's expensive journey into modern day torture devices designed to move bones around! Ok, she's getting braces but when you think about what they are going to do it sure sounds like torture. We took her in on Friday for the spacers. She wasn't amused at all. They wedged little blue bands between her back top teeth. Then on Monday we went back in and they took a mold for her palate expander. In a few weeks we'll go back in for the torture device to be put in. Everyday we'll use a key and crank her mouth open a bit at a time.

Will it hurt her? Probably.

What do we tell her? It'll be ok, honey. This is necessary. For the greater good...

I am such a good mom.

I spent most of Saturday working on my quilt top. I got the whole center done! I like it. Dan said it looks kind of country farm house. Really? Does it?

Now for the borders. I am going to do blocks with full circles in the center. I think it'll look pretty good in the end. I hope anyway!

Today is going to be a crazy day after school. Hannah has girl scouts at 3:30, Simon had Tae Kwon Do at 4:20, and Hannah has a make-up Gymnastics class at 6:30. I really don't do these things on purpose. We drop Hannah at GS, come home and do some homework., then take Simon to TKD, run back get Hannah, go back and get Simon, and get home about 5:30. Phew! Eat leftover Chili for dinner(I love Chili!). Take Hannah to Gymnastics at 6:30 and retrieve her an hour later.

Last but not least, vow to never sign my kids up for after school activities again!

The problem with boys

My husband sent me an article that I thought was rather fascinating. We have talked in the past about how boys and girls have different learning styles and how boys aren't allowed to be boys anymore. Seeing that I am not a man I don't always understand the need to be aggressive or maybe I should say, always physically active. There is such a huge difference between my daughter and two sons. Are we doing a severe injustice to our boys?

Anyway, please take a minute to read this little article and tell me what you think. I am interested to hear your thoughts.

More than I can chew?

I am questioning my sanity right now. One of the wonderful women in the MOMS Club is doing a half marathon this spring and was looking for people to walk or run with her. Seeing as I haven't done any running since JV soccer in high school I knew running was out of the question but walking... I walk everyday. A couple of miles in fact. Could I actually walk 13.1 miles? Can I? Should I try?

Yes. Yes, I should.

I am going to do it. It benefits the leukemia and lymphoma society and it'll also benefit me to walk that much. I don't have all the details yet but I'll let you all know about them when I do. I'll be needing donations won't I?

Early riser and school projects

Today didn't have the best start to the day but it turned out okay.

Seth decided that 5 am would be a good time to wake up. I tried to get him to go back to sleep but he wasn't going for it. Groggily, I drug myself out of bed at 6:30 to get a shower in before the days festivities began. I was having our playgroup over at 10 and I wanted to get the house in order before everyone arrived. I still had to do the usual morning routine of breakfasts, lunches, and getting the kids to school by 8:30. I even got my neighbors kids on our way since I was being lazy and driving. My neighbor is dealing with breast cancer and chemo treatments right now so the least I can do is offer to help get her kids to and from school.

The playgroup was fun. Seth has a hard time sharing his own toys so I spent a good deal of time taking whatever toy he had just snagged away from one of the kids and giving it back. It's so hard to explain to a toddler that the other kids won't take your toy away forever or keep them. All of these things will still be here and yours to play with once they leave.

It has been snowing off and on all day. Not really sticking though. For dinner tonight I made chicken and rice soup just like my mama taught me! It's so comforting to eat warm soup when it's cold outside. Although in our old drafty house it's a bit cold inside too.

I haven't made a lot of blocks for my quilt. Sometimes I can't wait to work on a quilt and other times I am a slacker and I'd rather sit and watch tv. Someday I'll have a tv in my sewing room but as I've said before I'd never leave this room then.

I did hang a quilt on the wall in here this weekend though. I think it looks good in here.

I also sent the baby quilt off with Dan all nice and packaged up. He got an email later in the day about a baby shower for the couple... nice. Too late, we already gave our gift and I think a baby quilt is enough.

Oh, Hannah did a little project for school, "All About Me." Since she was one of the few kids to get it done in time her teacher asked her to share it at the Board of Ed meeting last night. Her little story was put together with pictures of her family. Dan took her last night so I didn't see it but I read it. It was pretty cute. She talked about her loving family and a trip she took with her grandma Stella to see the dolphins. Of course she also said her brothers are a pain and her parents yell sometimes but not too much... gee... thanks...I am glad I wasn't there last night.

Tomorrow should be a fun day. I am going out for our MOMS Club holiday dinner. Yummy food + no kids = a good time!

Aquarium

Our original plan for yesterday was to meet up with some mommy friends and spend the day in the Children's Museum. When Tiff and I got to the museum there was a line around the side of the building and two buses outside. AH! We've been there before on a busy day and it's no fun at all. You can't take your eyes off your kid for fear they'll run off somewhere or they get into a "mine" match with another kid. Too stressful.

Tiff suggested we go to the Adventure Aquarium that's about 10 miles away from the mesuem. I was all for it. The only problem was we had to ditch our friends... shame on us for not having any phone numbers with us. They ended up leaving early anyway because it was so crowded. I think Tiff and I made the right choice.

Since we hadn't been to this aquarium before I was excited to see it. Seth, who is beginning to talk more, said fish and shark.

We had a pretty good time. I enjoyed myself until Seth got to tired to walk and he began to get uncooperative. Then it was time to go. The aquarium is across the water from Philly so I asked Tiff to take a picture for us. Most of my experience in Philly has been taking Simon to CHOP for surgery last spring so it was nice to see it in a different light.

Catch up

Sorry it's been a while since I posted. Nothing to terribly exciting is going on around here. Same old, same old.

Seth went to his first art class ever yesterday. He loved it. He got to paint, play with shaving cream, make a snowman, and use playdough. I have a kid who loves to get into it and get dirty. Some kids shy away from mess, not my boy. He painted with his hands and smeared shaving cream all over the place. The best part about art class is that the mess isn't at my house. Not that there isn't usually mess at my house.

I have managed a bit of progress on my quilt blocks and make a mess while I was at it. See, there is usually mess around here.

I also finished up a baby quilt. It has minky for a backing. It's so soft. I have a yard of one of the fabrics left and I am trying to decide what to do with it. I can make a couple burb cloths or maybe a little bag.... oh, the options...

Today we met up with the MOMS Club at a fun indoor play place. After they played for a while we went a got some lunch with Tiff and Chloe. Seth is now napping nicely. The weather is unusually warm today so I think we should take advantage of it and hit the park this afternoon.

Really we are just hanging out, doing our thing. Pretty boring, huh?
